A Paris le mois d’octobre est bleu, blanc, pourpre et or.
Bleu vif du ciel, balayé par un petit vent qui chasse les nuages. Pourpre de la vigne et du vin fraîchement pressé lors des vendanges de Montmartre. Pourpre encore des théâtres, dont la saison commence à battre son plein.
Or du soleil encore brillant, des coupoles rondes et des chevaux glorieux se détachant sur le ciel limpide.
Blanc d’albâtre des statues aux épaules caressées de pétales d’or. Blanc fantasmagorique de la Nuit Blanche pendant laquelle Paris oublie de s’endormir, tandis que des monuments, des musées et des lieux inhabituels sont ouverts au public toute la nuit.
Il arrive aussi qu’il pleuve en octobre, que le temps soit gris et mouillé. C’est le moment d’acheter des girolles au marché et de préparer une fricassée pour la Semaine du Goût. Le moment aussi d’aller au concert, de voir une expo, une pièce de théâtre… Le Festival d’Automne à Paris est fait tout exprès pour ça.

Blue, white, red and gold

In Paris, the month of October is blue, white, red and gold.
Bright blue of the sky, swept by the light wind which carries away the clouds. Red of the vine and of the wine freshly pressed from the harvest of Montmartre. Red of the theatres as well, where the shows start again. Gold of the sun still shining, of the round domes and of the glorious horses which stand out against the clear sky.
White of the alabaster of the statues with shoulders stroked by golden petals. Fantastic white of the Nuit Blanche during which Paris forgets to go to sleep, while monuments, museums and unusual places are open during the night.
It also sometimes rains in October, and the weather can be grey and damp. It’s the time to buy chanterelle mushrooms at the market and to prepare a fricassee for the Taste week. The time also to go to the concert, to see an exhibition, to go to the theatre… The Autumn Festival in Paris is there for this.
